ART FAIR

This year I was happy to be invited by Outre Gallery to exhibit at the Affordable Art Fair in Melbourne. They had a gorgeous booth of interesting, contemporary artworks by a select group of artists, both local and international.

Faded Beauty

I exhibited four new sculpture paintings and one A2 screen print created specifically for the event.

With these works I am continuing to explore the double standard language of gender. It’s an old narrative of equality (or lack there of) but one that is still so interesting to me. Why are there so many more derogative terms for female than males?

I had a great response to these works and the sentiment behind them. All original sculpture paintings have sold but there are still some ‘Bubbles Burst’ screen prints available at Outre Gallery.

ROXY MUSIC'S COUNTRY LIFE

My take on the iconic 1974 Roxy Music album cover, 'Country Life'.

I've always loved this iconic image of Eveline Grunwald and Constanze Karoli taken by Eric Bowman. Scroll down to see the original image.

The two German girls were apparently fans and met the band in a bar. They agreed to do the shoot when Roxy Music's original models fell through.

The title ‘Country Life’ was named after the British magazine for the gentry and Brian Ferry wanted a tongue in cheek contrast to the usual wholesome, staid photographs that sported the cover. It proved to be quite controversial and was censored in some parts of the world. Early US copies were shrink-wrapped in opaque plastic and then re released with the back cover pic that featured only the trees/bushes.

My original painting was exhibited and sold at The Record Collection show curated by Rick Mereki. Partial benefits going to the Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

Another legend gone. RIP Ronnie Spector, lead singer of the Ronettes and original 'bad girl of rock n roll'. What a voice, with the best beehive in town.

FASTER PUSSYCAT KILL KILL

I was recently asked to contribute to a group show at Outre Gallery called ‘A League of Their Own’ - a showcase of loveable misfits, bad ass legends and vociferous villains. I couldn’t go past the iconic Varla (Tura Satana), Billie (Lori Williams) and Rosie (Haji) from Russ Meyers 1965 cult classic, Faster Pussycat Kill Kill. Shot in black and white, such classic scenes and styling, with the best one liners.

The original painting on plywood sold but due to an overwhelming response I have released a limited edition of giclee prints available from A3+ to A0 size in the online store. So now you can now take legends Tura, Lori and Haji home with you. :)

SPOKE x VERTICAL GALLERY 12 x 12 SHOW

So happy to be asked back to exhibit at Spoke Art as part of their pop up 12 x 12 exhibition at Vertical Gallery in Chicago.

Lots of great artists involved and the only stipulation being that the artwork was to be 12 x 12”. Here’s my piece, ‘We Got The Beat’.

NSFW GROUP SHOW AT SPOKE ART SAN FRANCISCO

I was recently asked to be a part of a group show, NSFW at Spoke Art in San Francisco. The show featured over 40 female and femme identifying artists who explored the topic of female sexuality. The varied works included painting, embroidery, neon and prints. Some of the artists involved were Miss van, Laura Berger, Jessica Hess, Petite Luxures, Jessica So Ren Tang, Winnie Truong, Robin Eisenberg, Meryl Pataky, Sabrina Elliot and more. Dasha Matsuura curated the show and you can read her interview about the show in Juxtapoz magazine here.
